About Us

Derek Barker started Earthco in 1998 following a successful career in Manweb. The company has been built up from small beginnings to be the only independent test lab in the country, serving most of the electricity industry in the UK and several companies in Europe. Earthco employs five members of staff who have all been with the company for some time. Everyone works as a team to provide a reliable, professional service to our customers.

Earthco is situated in the historic small city of Ely, in the Cambridgeshire fens. It is a modern test facility, equipped with the latest test machinery, imported from the United States of America. Our test technicians are all trained in our procedures and in use of the machinery. An engineer from Hanco in the USA visits us annually to service and calibrate the equipment and carry out any training required.

At Earthco we take a pride in providing a high quality service to our customers. We believe in high standards and efficient, friendly service. We visit a large number of our customers ‘on-site’ and our technicians travel all over the country from the south of Cornwall to the North of Scotland and from East Anglia to Wales and into Northern Ireland. We welcome visitors (by arrangement) to the Lab and regularly give demonstrations of testing to newly qualified linesmen as part of the service.
